Giving Tuesday is next Tuesday, December 1st. It was created to harness the potential of social media and people’s generosity to bring about real change in their communities. Bay Area Recycling for Charitieshas chosen this auspicious date to launch our Indiegogo fundraising campaign to transform BARC to meet the needs of our community and help make Grand Traverse the greenest community in Michigan.
On Tuesday we’ll be asking for your monetary support of our campaign, and we genuinely welcome, appreciate and need your financial support. We are also asking you to commit to sharing our goals and finding others who will pledge their support to our efforts.
Together we can make this area a model for Michigan with a revitalized Bay Area Recycling for Charities at the heart of it all!

Northern Michigan’s News Leader
A Northern Michigan group hopes to make
Traverse City a leader in ‘going green’.
Tonight Bay Area Recycling for Charities announced the launch of the Focus Green 2020 Project.
They hope it will get more people involved in recycling and conservation in the Traverse City area.
Their goal is to make the Grand Traverse region the greenest in Michigan by 2020.
They want other cities across Michigan, to follow their lead.
“To be able to share that knowledge with other communities, to not duplicate and not replicate each other’s efforts, we can learn from each other and make it a better place faster if we can grow with each other,” said Andy Gale, President and Founder.
The organization is always in need of volunteers and donations.

The DEQ and Governor’s Recycling Council recognized Bay Area Recycling For Charities Inc. (BARC) for excellence in recycling at the May 5, 2015 Governor’s Recycling Summit in Kalamazoo, MI.
BARC, who was recognized in February with the Grand Traverse County RecycleSmart “Take It Back” Recycling Award, was also honored at the Governors Recycling Summit for excelling in several key categories, including providing leadership, improving measurement tools, expanding recycling rates, focusing on outreach and education, increasing access to recycling, and “closing the loop” by designing or creating new products that can be recycled or by purchasing and using products made of recycled content.
Gov. Rick Snyder outlined these components in his April2014 statewide plan to increase the state’s recycling rate to 30 percent.
BARC was also awarded a Michigan DEQ Community Pollution Grant in the amount of $65,000 to assist with the improvement of recycling transportation infrastructure.
