Join in the fun at the TC Winter Microbrew Festival!
Bay Area Recycling for Charities is looking for volunteers to represent BARC at the 2015 6th Annual TC Winter Microbrew & Music Festival, Saturday, February 7th, 4 – 10PM. If you can give us some of your time, let us know!
The mission of Bay Area Recycling for Charities (BARC) is to further recycling activities in the communities we serve through service, education, and philanthropy.
Local recycling programs could soon get a boost–
The Department of Environmental Quality announced it would provide some $600,000 in grants dedicated to growing recycling operations through 2015.
This comes after Governor Snyder announced plans to double the state’s residential recycling rates from 15 to 30 percent.
Local operations, like this one in Grand Traverse County, say the extra attention means a lot.
“They can take that money and say, okay, this product is hard to recycle, so, let’s figure out a program and this is the grant money to do so,” said Adam Bolton of Bay Area Recycling for Charities. “It’s really crucial for us, for this grant money to help us sustain what we do and to really improve our efficiencies. So, also, what that will do is create local jobs.”
Experts say the money would allow for the creation of new operations in underserved areas and help existing programs to become that much more efficient.
