TART Trails is hosting its annual Tour de TART family-friendly bicycle ride on Friday, July 19th, 2023! Tour de TART is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network. BARC is in charge of making this event zero waste!
Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to hit the TART and Leelanau Trails for an evening ride that begins in Traverse City and ends at North Park in the Village of Suttons Bay.
Participants may begin anytime between 4 pm and 6:30 pm from Darrow Park in Traverse City. Riders will enjoy two food stops along the 17-mile ride, a bayside meal at North Park in Suttons Bay, a cash bar with local wine and microbrews, and then a relaxing bus ride back to Traverse City. Return bus service begins at 6 pm and the last bus departs at 9 pm sharp. All bikes are transported back to Traverse City in a safe and secure moving truck. Bikes will be monitored by volunteers until the owner and bike are reunited. All participants will receive a numbered wristband at check-in that corresponds to the number assigned to their bike.

Kaleva, in the center of Manistee County, holds a festival in mid-July. The festival includes Kaleva School Reunion, food, softball tournament, car show, pony rides, games and contests, parade, arts and crafts, and fireworks. Kaleva was founded by Finnish settlers and many of its streets boast Finnish names. The Bottle House Museum, built with 60,000 glass bottles by John Makinen, is listed on the National Historic Register. It is owned and operated by the Kaleva Historical Society and houses historical displays. Another landmark in Kaleva is the RR Depot Museum which houses railroad artifacts and displays.
On Saturday, there will be a bus coming to our Kaleva location every 20 minutes during the festivities. Stop by to tour of facility or shop at our resale shop!

The oldest of the Michigan Brewers Guild's five annual festivals, the Summer Beer Festival takes place rain or shine in the lovely outdoor setting of Ypsilanti's Riverside Park in historic Depot Town. 15 sampling tokens are included in the price of a ticket, and additional tokens are for sale at the event for just 50 cents.

The annual scrap tire recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on July 27th, rain or shine, at Bay Area Recycling for Community, located at 14407 Industrial Drive in Kaleva.
Residents will be allowed to dispose of 10 tires per vehicle, per visit, with a $2 fee per tire. Payments must be made in cash — cards and checks will not be accepted.
